Abstract
This study aimed to identify the level of Foreign Language Anxiety (FLA) among Non-English Department students, specifically in the PGMI program at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, and to determine the most dominant anxiety component. This research was quantitative descriptive research with a cross-sectional survey design. The researcher chose 200 first-semester PGMI students as samples using purposive and proportional stratified random sampling. To collect data, the researcher used the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) questionnaire consisting of 33 items. From the result of analyzing the data, it was found that the total mean score of students’ anxiety was 107.24, which categorized them into the "Mild Anxious" level. It explains that the majority of students (90%) experienced varying degrees of anxiety, ranging from mild to very anxious. Furthermore, it was found that Test Anxiety (TA) was the most dominant component with a percentage contribution of 43.17%, followed by Communication Apprehension (34.38%) and Fear of Negative Evaluation (22.45%). It can be concluded that students generally experience a significant level of anxiety when learning English, primarily triggered by academic evaluation and classroom performance. From the statistical results that have been found, it can be concluded that limited exposure to English and lack of linguistic mastery contribute significantly to the high level of Foreign Language Anxiety among non-English students at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang.
