Abstract

ABSTRACT Wahyuni Wulandari (1314050374),The effect of Idea Details Strategy towards student’s writing skill on Descriptive Text at class VIII State Islamic Junior high School Padang Panjang. The problem of this research was the student had lack of vocabulary,organization and language use.The purpose of this study is determine whether there is any significant effect on students’ writing skill between students who are taught by using Idea Details Strategy on Descriptive text in Padang Panjang The design of this research was Experimental design. The research was located at Islamic Junior High School Padang Panjang. The population was 201 students distributed in six classes. The sample was class D as experimental class and class E as control class consisted of 32 students that had chosen through cluster sampling. The data of this research was collected by using writing test. The researcher gave pre-test to the students to identify the students’ basic skill in writing and to know the prior students’skill in writing descriptive text at the first meeting before doing the treatment. After doing the treatment for four meetings, that class was given post-test. The result of this research showed that the students writing skill in experimental class was better than control class it was prove by the score (78.15) in experimental class and (68.81) in control class. Furthermore, the data of this research was analyzed by using statistical software program SPSS (Statistical Packages for Social Sciences) version 20 and using T-test proposed by Gay and Subana in manual way. From the calculation of the result of the test, it was indicated that tcalculate was 4.92 and ttable was 1.9875 with p = 0,05 and degree of freedom 56. So, it meant that tcalculate was higher than ttable (4.92 > 1.9875) and the hypothesis was accepted. It is concluded that there is a significant effect between Experiment class and control class. Statistically, it was showed that teaching writing by using Idea Details Strategy to improve students’ writing skill of Islamic Junior High School Padang Panjang. It is recommended to English teacher to use Idea Details Strategy in teaching writing, to improve students’ writing skill. For other researcher suggested to conduct Idea Details Strategy and the other technique in developing students’ writing skill at the different level of the students.
