Abstract

ABSTRACT Yeli Eka Sintya, 2017.“The Effect of Clustering Technique to Students’ Writing Skill in Analytical Exposition at Senior High School 15 Padang”. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences between students’ writing achievement who were taught by Clustering Technique and those who taught without using Clustering Technique at class XI of Senior High School 15 Padang. This research was true experimental research. The population of this study was all of the students at class XI of Senior High School 15 Padang that consist of 94 students who were divided into three classes. The sample was chosen by using random sampling. The result was class XI IPS3 as experimental class and XI IPS2 as control class that consist of 31 and 31 students. In collecting the data, researcher used written test. The test was given to both classes with the same topic. The researcher gave treatment by using clustering technique for fourth meetings to experimental class. After fourth meeting.The reseacher gave written test as post-test of analytical exposition text to know the effect of using clustering technique in improving students’ writing ability. The result of this research showed that the mean score of students’ writing ability in experimental class (79.06) was higher than the mean score of students’ writing ability in control class (72.61. While, t-observed(10.75) was also bigger than t-table (2.021). Moreover, each components of writing both of classes are different. It can be seen from the comparison of students’ mean scores of post-test. Statistically, it is showed that teaching writing by using Clustering technique gives significant difference on students’ writing skill. Finally, it is recommanded: first, the english teacher should determine the use of clustering technique in teaching writing, especially in analytical exposition text. Then for other researcher, it is suggested to carry out further studies about the use of Clustering technique and the other technique in improving students’ writing ability sice this study only concern about tthe use of clustering technique in improving students’ writing ability in analytical exposition text.
