Abstract

ABSTRACT Pradila Wulandari (2018): “The Effect of Drama Technique on Students’ Speaking Ability at Class XI of Islamic Senior High School 1 Solok Selatan”. Advisors: 1. Dr. Martin Kustati, M.Pd 2. Dra. Hj. Elismawati, M. Pd The students at Class XI of Islamic Senior High School 1 Solok Selatan have many problems in speaking English that make them embarrassed to use English Language. They are lazy to speak because they have limited vocabulary, grammar, confidence and pronunciation. All of these problems are caused they seldom speak English. For solving these problems in this research, the researcher offer drama technique to help them. The objective of this research was to determine whether Drama technique gave significant effect on students’ speaking ability at class XI of Islamic Senior High School 1 Solok Selatan. This research was Quasi experiment research. The design was Randomized Posttest Only Control Group Design. The population was Class XI that consists of 149 students. The researcher used Cluster Random Sampling for getting the sample class. Thus, there were two classes as sample. The students consisted of 34 students as experimental class and 33 students as control class. Total numbers of samples were 67 students. This research had a speaking test to get data. The result of this research showed that the mean scores of post-test of experimental class (77.14) was higher than mean score of control class (70.15). Therefore, t_calculated (3.27) was bigger than t_table (1.99). It meant that the hypothesis was accepted Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that teaching speaking by using drama technique gave significant effect on students’ speaking ability at class XI of ISHS 1 Solok Selatan. It was recommended: first, the English teacher should consider using Drama as a technique in teaching speaking for giving significant effect on students’ speaking ability. For other researcher, it’s suggested to carry out further studies about Drama and the other technique in developing students’ speaking skills. Dra. Hj. Elismawati, M. Pd Peserta didik pada kelas XI di MAN 1 Solok Selatan mempunyai banyak masalah dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris yang membuat mereka malu menggunakan bahasa inggris. Mereka malas untuk berbicara karena mereka mempunyai kosakata, susunan, tata bahasa, dan pengucapan yang terbatas. Semua masalah ini disebabkan karena mereka jarang berbicara bahasa inggis. Untuk memecahkan permasalahan ini penulis menawarkan teknik drama untuk mmbantu mereka. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengukur apakah teknik drama memberikan pengaruh yang berarti dalam kemampuan berbicara siswa dikelas XI MAN 1 Solok Selatan. Penelitian ini yaitu penelitian eksperimen semu. Rancangan dari penelitiannya yaitu Randomized Posttest Only Control Group Design. Populasi yaitu kelas XI yang terdiri dari 149 peserta didik. Peneliti menggunakan Cluster Random Sampling untuk mendapatkan sampel (sampel acak kelompok) sehingga didapatkan 2 kelas sebagai sampel. Peserta didik terdiri dari 34 orang sebagai kelas penelitian dan 33 peserta didik lagi sebagai kelas kontrol. Jumlah keseluruhan sampel yaitu 67 orang peserta didik. Penelitian ini mengambil sebuah tes berbicara untuk mendapatkan data. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata dalam tes akhir kelas eksperimen (77, 14) lebih tinggi dari rata-rata skor kelompok control (70,15). Selanjutnya t- hitung (3,27) lebih besar dari t- tabel (1,99). Ini bermakna bahwa hipotesis dapat diterima. Berdasarkan penemuan penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa mengajar berbicara bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan teknik drama memberi pengaruh yang berarti dalam kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas XI MAN Solok Selatan. Oleh karena itu ada beberapa hal yang penulis sarankan: pertama, guru-guru Bahasa Inggris sebaiknya mempertimbangkan Drama sebagai sebuah teknik dalam pembelajaran berbicara untuk memberikan pengaruh yang berarti terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa. Bagi para peneliti, diharapkan melaksanakan penelitian lebih lanjut tentang penggunaan teknik drama dan teknik lainnya dalam mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara siswa.
