Abstract

This thesis is about Mahmud Yunus as a famous Islamic education figure. He wrote many books in this field. In fact, he does not only write books related to Islamic education but also wrote the books of other science, such as ‘Ulum alHadits. In this science, he wrote a book by the title ‘Ilmu Mushthalah al-Hadits book. But this book is rarely touched by the people in Islamic institution. So this thesis wants to answer: “How is analysis of the existence of ‘Ilmu Mushthalah alHadits book by Mahmud Yunus? how is the writing system that used by Mahmud Yunus in ‘Ilmu Mushthalah al Hadits book? and how is analysis of its contents?” The purpose of this study is to know the existence, the writing system, and the contents of ‘Ilmu Mushthalah al Hadits book by Mahmud Yunus. This study is library research, and research method of this thesis is descriptive-analysis. The sources of this research can be classified into two kinds.They are primary data and secondary data. The primary data is ‘Ilmu Mushthalah al Hadits book by Mahmud Yunus, and the secondary data that writer uses are the books of Mahmud Yunus and the other books such as Ulumul Hadits by Ibn Shalah, Ushul Hadits ‘Ulumuhu wa Musthalahuhu by Ajaj al-Khatib, Mabahits fii ‘Ulum al Hadits by Manna’ al Qathan, Ilmu Hadis by Munzier Suparta, Perkembangan Pemikiran Ulum al-Hadits dari Klasik sampai Modern by Muhammad Dede Rudliyana and the other books that relevant with the topic. The result of this study is (1) the existence of ‘Ilmu Mushthalah al Hadits book by Mahmud Yunus was not so visible. This book is not used much by people at the madrasah or the colleges. The reason is this book written in simple form and less complete, (2) the writing system of ‘Ilmu Mushthalah al Hadits book is slightly different with other ‘Ulum al-Hadits book before. This book consists of 96 pages and about 73 topics. Unfortunately, this book didn’t include all the topics that related to ‘Ulum al-Hadits. It just included some of the topic, and much more explanation about the terms related to ‘Ulum al-Hadits, and (3) the contents of ‘Ilmu Mushthalah al Hadits book by Mahmud Yunus are related to ‘Ulum alHadits. In this book, there are some topics that rarely found in the previous book of ‘Ulum al-Hadits. Among others are Mahmud Yunus made a special chapter entitled Criticism of the Shahihain and Criticism of Ibnu Shalah’s word.
