Abstract

The students at class VIII of Junior High School 2 Nan Sabaris have many problems in speaking English that make them embarrased to use English Language. They are lazy to speak because they have limited vocabulary. All of these problems are caused they seldom speak English. For solving these problems this research, the researcher offer three step interview technique to help them. The objective of this research was to determine whether three step interview technique gave significant effect on students’ speaking skill at class VIII of Junior High School 2 Nan Sabaris. This research was experiment research. The design was Randomized Posttest Only Control Group Design. The population was clas VIII that consists of 98 students. The researcher used Cluster Random Sampling for getting the sample class. Thus, there were two classess as sample. The students consisted of 28 students as experimental class and 28 students as control class. Total numbers of samples were 54 students. This research had a speaking test to get data. The result of this research showed that the mean scores of post-test of experimental class (64.64) was higher than mean score of control class (60.21). Therefore, t-calculated (2.050) was bigger than t-table (1.671). it mean that the hypothesis was accepted. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that teaching speaking by using three step interview technique gave significant effect on students’ speaking skill at class VIII of Junior High School 2 Nan Sabaris. It was recomended: first, the English teacher should consider using three step interview as a technique in teaching speaking for giving significant effect on students’ speaking skill. For the other researcher, it’s suggested to carry out further studies about three step interview and other technique in developping students speaking skills.
