Abstract

Writing is the mental work of inventing ideas, thinking about how to express them, and organizing them into statements and paragraphs that will be clear to a reader. The students at class VIII Islamic Junior High School 5 Padang Pariaman were lack of writing skill. The students have difficulties in expressing their ideas. It can be shown by their activity during teaching and learning process, they difficult to use grammar and write a good sentence. In this study, the researcher offered Dictogloss Technique to overcome students’ problems. The main problems for this research are does Dictogloss technique give significant effect on students writing skill and what components of writing skill can improve by using Dictogloss Technique? The purpose of this research was to find out the effect of Dictogloss Technique toward students’ writing skill at MTsN 5 Padang Pariaman. Through this technique students can improve their writing skill and solve problems in components of writing skill like content, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanic. Therefore, the researcher offerd Dictogloss Technique to find whether Dictogloss Technique that effective to improve students’ writing skill and to find the components of writing can be improved by using Dictogloss Technique. This was pre-experimental research. One group Pre-test Post-test design was used in this research. There were 70 students at class VIII Islamic Junior High School 5 Padang Pariaman in the school year 2017/2018 as the population of this research. By using Cluster Random Sampling Technique the researcher took class VIII-3 as the sample (experimental class) that consist of 24 students . To collect the data, pre-test was given before giving treatment by using Dictogloss Technique in five meeting, the post-test was given after doing treatments in this research was writing test analyzed by using microsoft excel and looking for the percentage Using Subana’s theory. The result of this research showed the students’ writing skill was improved. It could be seen from the mean score of students’ writing in post-test was 78.04 higher than the mean score of students’ writing pre-test was 51.79. While, t-obtained was 12.98 also higher than t-table was 1.678. It mean that the hyphotesis was accepted. The significant component could be improved by using was content, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanic. In this concluded that Dictogloss Technique can improve students’ skill on writing at grade VIII-3 of Islamic Junior High School 5 Padang Pariaman. It is recommend that the English teacher should consider the use Dictogloss as a technique in teaching writing.Then, for other researcher, it is suggested to carry out further studies about the use of simulation technique to improve students’ writing skill.
