Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Jigsaw technique on students’ speaking ability at Senior High School 1 Lembah Melintang. Quantitative pre-experimental research was used in this study. Thirty-five eighth grade students of F3 Senior High School 1 Lembah Melintang were the subjects of this study. Interview test was given before the treatment to describe their pre-test scores. The experimental class was treated using Jigsaw technique for six meetings. At the end of the treatment, students were given a post-test. Both tests were analyzed using Huges (2003) assessment rubric, including Pronunciation, Grammar, Vocabulary, Fluency and Comprehension. The data were analyzed using SPSS 19, the results showed that the post-test score (60.54) was higher than the pre-test (50.05), indicating that the Jigsaw technique had a significant effect on students’ speaking skills. The 2-tailed significant value of the paired sample test was 0.000 <0.05. As a result, it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. It can be concluded that the Jigsaw technique in teaching speaking can help students to improve their speaking skills.
