Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the Effect Of Three-Step Interview Technique To Students’ Speaking ability On Descriptive Text At Tenth Grade SMA Negeri 1 Lingga Bayu. A quantitative pre-experimental design was used in this study. Twenty-nine of ten grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Lingga Bayu were the subjects of this study. Performance test was given prior to the treatment to describe their Pre-test score. The treatment was teaching by using Three Step Interview which was conducted for four meetings. At the end of the treatment, students were given the Post-Test. Both tests were analyzed by using scoring rubrics Hughes (2003:131-132) to include Pronunciation, Grammar, Vocabulary, Fluency and Comprehension. From the result calculation, it is obtained the value of the t observation (t0) is 5,079 the degree of freedom (df) is 28 (obtained from N-1)= (29-1=28). The writer used the degree of sigrificance of 5%. In the table of significance, it can be seen the df 28 and the degree of 5% the value of degree of significance are 2,048. If compared with each value of the degree of significance, the result is 5,079 > 2,048. According to Sugiyono if the result of calculation to < tt : the null hypothesis(H0) is rejected. If the result of calculation t0 (t observation) is lower that tt (t table), t0>tt: the null hypothesis is accepted. Since the scores obtained from the result of calculating, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. In other word, the writer hypothesis is accepted. It means that there is significant effect between student’s achievement in learning speaking ability using Three Step Interview. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that Three-Step Interview give effectiveness on students speaking ability in descriptive text .
