Abstract
Tafiati, NIM 2020090023, Islamic Linguistic Politeness in Educational Interactions at Madrasah Aliyah Perguruan Islam Ar-Risalah Padang. A dissertation for Islamic Education Study Postgraduate Program at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, 2024. Comfortable and conducive educational interactions have a positive impact on learning activities. Linguistic politeness is one of the main factors in creating comfortable and conducive educational interactions, however, in practice, educational interactions in schools still ignore this. This is the basis for this research, focusing on how linguistic politeness plays out in educational interactions at the Private Madrasah Aliyah Perguruan Islam Ar-Risalah, specifically on: 1) How teachers interact educationally in learning activities? 2) What are the teachers' linguistic politeness strategies in educational interactions? 3) What are the principles of teachers' linguistic politeness in educational interactions? 4) What are the impacts of teachers' linguistic politeness on students' language behavior in educational interactions? Research objectives: 1) Exploring teachers' educational interactions in learning activities, 2) Discovering teachers' linguistic politeness strategies in educational interactions, 3) Identifying teachers' linguistic politeness principles in educational interactions, 4) Explaining the impacts of teachers' linguistic politeness on students' language behavior in educational interactions. This research was conducted using the qualitative approach. Research data were lingual unit in the form of teachers' and students' speeches. Data analysis was carried out interactively based on the Miles and Huberman model. Research findings: First, teachers' educational interactions in learning activities consisted of interactions in preliminary, core and closing activities. Teachers' interactions in preliminary activities were (1) attracting students' attention, (2) creating motivations, (3) providing references, and (4) making connections. Teachers' interactions in the core activities provided students with the opportunity to gain five main learning experiences: (1) observing, (2) asking, (3) reasoning, (4) trying, and (5) communicating. Teachers' interactions in closing activities consisted of: (1) reviewing what have been delivered, (2) conducting evaluations, (3) providing follow-ups. Second, the teachers' linguistic politeness strategies were divided into two categories, 1) Rabbani expression strategy, consisted of: (1) salam, (2) doa, (3) syukur, (4) dzikir. 2) Communication strategy, consisted of: (1) good dictions, (2) appropriate sentences, (3) speaking slowly, (4) metaphors. For good dictions, seven forms were found, namely, greetings, inclusion, requests, praises, approvals, empathy, and apology. For appropriate sentences, five forms were found, namely, giving encouragement, giving space, giving understanding, giving appreciation, giving argument. Third, the principles of teachers’ linguistic politeness refered to: 1) qaulan sadida, 2) qaulan ma'rufa, 3) qaulan layyina, 4) qaulan maysura, 5) qaulan karima, 6) qaulan baligha. Fourth, teachers' linguistic politeness has a positive impact on students' language behavior. The research conclusion is educational interactions that occur at Private Madrasah Aliyah Perguruan Islam Ar-Risalah are in accordance with learning theory, with strategies and principles of Islamic linguistic politeness, and have a positive impact on students' language behavior.
