Abstract
Media is an important means to support the learning process. This research aims to describe the media that teachers often use in learning English language skills, namely productive skills, and how to apply this media in the classroom by teachers at SMPN 01 Batang Anai, Padang Pariaman district. This research is a type of qualitative research. The subject of this research was one of the class IX English teachers at SMPN 01 Batang Anai, as well as several students who were informants. Interviews and observations were used as instruments in this research. Data collection techniques include direct classroom observation and interviews with teachers. The research results show that the media that teachers often use to learn productive English skills are digital projectors, Microsoft PowerPoint, textbooks, real objects, pictures, videos, and YouTube. In its application First, the teacher brainstorms with students. After that, at the observing stage, the teacher displays the media to students, and students are asked to understand and note down things that are considered important. Then students are asked to make assignments according to the material being taught and present them in front of the class. Of course, teachers have considerations or reasons for using media. By using media, students will be more motivated to learn; media such as videos and films will stimulate student activity in the classroom; and through media, students will be more motivated to speak English. It can be concluded that English teachers have used various learning media, especially for productive skills, namely speaking and writing skills. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers continue to develop better media use skills in line with learning objectives and student competencies.
