Abstract

This research aims to describe the effectiveness of using a spinning wheel in teaching reading comprehension to eighth grade students at MTsN 6 Solok Selatan. This research method is quantitative experimental research. The population was all eighth graders as well as fourth graders, while the sample for this study was chosen randomly, namely class VIII3 as the experimental class which was treated with rotating wheel media and VIII4 as the control class with conventional techniques. Data was collected through pre-test and post-test objective questions using recount text. The test was given to both classes with the same text. The post test was given to both classes after being treated in four meetings to determine the influence of the spinning wheel media. Calculation of post test scores resulted in an increase in students' understanding with a t-test value of 2,358>1680 based on critical values and t-table, meaning that there was a significant influence of the use of spinning wheel media on students' reading comprehension skills in Class VIII mtsn 6 Solok Selatan. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that there is an increase in students' understanding of using spinning wheel media compared to conventional teaching, therefore the researchers suggest to teachers to use spinning wheel media in teaching. Keywords: spinning wheel media, reading comprehension.
