Abstract

An ideal textbook not only has material that is appropriate to the skills but also has moral values. Therefore, textbooks have moral messages to be taught to students and practiced in society. This study aims to analyze the moral values contained in the textbook dialogues. This research is designed as a content analysis in the form of descriptive qualitative. The data of this study are dialogs collected from the English textbook "English for Nusantara" for the second grade of Junior High School students published in 2022. Written by Ika Lestari Damayanti, Iyen Nurlaelawati, Mahmud Layan Huta Suhut, Yusnita Febrianti, Raymond Rahmadhani, and Gilang Asri Devianty. The instrument used to collect data was a checklist with checking the suitability of textbooks with moral values. The results showed that the English textbook "English for Nusantara" for grade VIII Of Junior High School students published by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in 2022 contained 11 moral values in the dialogs in the English textbook "English for Nusantara for second grade of Junior High School, namely: religiosity, honesty, tolerance, discipline, hard work, creativity, democracy, curiosity, nationalism, respect, compassion/communication, environmental care, and social care. From the 11 moral values in the dialog, curiosity dominantly occurred 14. While the moral values of creativity, independence, love for the country, closeness/communication, interest in reading, and responsibility occupy the lowest positions, namely 0.
