Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to determine whether scaffolding techniques at grade VII MTsN 3 Lima Puluh Kota significantly improve students' speaking abilities. The goal of the project is to use the scaffolding technique to educate people how to describe themselves. The research design is pre-experimental, and the methodology is quantitative. There are thirty-two students in the sample for this study. Random cluster sampling from the class was used to select the sample method. VII-1 is one of the research samples. Prior to the treatment, a performance test was administered to describe their Pre-test results. Using the scaffolding technique, the experimental class received instruction during four meetings. Students were handed the Post-Test at the conclusion of the session. Using grading rubrics for pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension (Brown, 2004:172), both examinations were examined. The total points were multiplied by four and the scores ranged from one to five points. The results of the data analysis using SPSS 25 indicated that the post-test score (76.12) was greater than the pre-test score (64), indicating that the scaffolding technique had a major impact on the speaking abilities of the students. The paired sample test has a significant 2-tailed result of 0.000 < 0.05. Thus, it can be said that whereas H0 is rejected, Ha is accepted. Further analysis of the data maintained that Pronunciation, Grammar, Vocabulary, Fluency and Comprehension were the major indicators to show the strengths of Scaffolding technique particularly when dealing with telling describing people. It can be concluded that Scaffolding technique in teaching speaking can helps students to improve their speaking skill
