Abstract

This study aims to analyze the repetition of mutasyabih al-lafzhiy verses in Surah al-Baqarah, focusing on Ibn ‘A<syu<r's interpretation, at-Tah{ri{<r wa at-Tanwi<r. The repetition serves as the research focus due to its complexity in interpretation, often presenting various meanings and concepts. The background of the problem includes the application of the principle of tikrar, an important principle in the science of Qur'anic exegesis used to understand and interpret the repetition of words or concepts in the sacred text. The applied research method is descriptive qualitative, allowing for a deep understanding of Ibn ‘A<syu<r's use of the principle of tikrar in interpreting mutasyabih al-lafzhiy verses. Data was collected through analysis of the original text of Ibn ‘A<syu<r's interpretation, paying attention to patterns of repetition and interpretations provided. The research findings identify three major themes and 18 sub-themes emerging from the classification of mutasyabih al-lafzhiy verses in Surah al-Baqarah. Ibn ‘A<syu<r only employs three tikrar principles in his interpretation, as other principles do not fit the format of the verses in Surah al-Baqarah. The implications of these findings include the emergence of differences in meaning in each repetition of mutasyabih verses in Surah al-Baqarah. This underscores the complexity and depth of the Qur'an, requiring a deep understanding for accurate interpretation.
