Abstract
The purpose of this research is to find out students’ difficulties in speaking English, to describe the factors that cause students’ difficulties in speaking English, to explain how teachers solve students’ difficulties in speaking. This is a qualitative study. The researcher collected data by observations, interviewing teacher and students. Speaking difficulties faced by students are inhibition, nothing to say, low participation. Factors that inhibit students when speaking are lack of pronunciation, lack of vocabulary, lack of confidence, lack of grammar and also comprehension. The solutions given by the teacher in overcoming students' speaking difficulties are providing additional vocabulary, providing motivation and doing drills. This problem shows that the teacher's role in teaching and learning processes is very necessary in creating a more interesting learning atmosphere by using appropriate media and updated teaching strategies. Student motivation and learning experience is significant in improving students’ speaking skill.
