Abstract

Writing is an important part of language teaching. It also functions as an essential tool for learning. It is clear that writing ability is very important, but in reality, most students still have difficulties with writing, such as lack of vocabulary and grammar. Many language teachers strive to improve their students' language skills. The purpose of this study is to analyze the grammatical error analysis on students’ writing descriptive text and the factors that caused those errors. The researcher employed a descriptive qualitative method. The participants in this study were tenth grade students of senior high school 9 Padang. The researcher conducted the data from students’ writing test and interview. According to the research findings, there are four components to the students' error while writing descriptive texts. They are omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. It was found the students still have some types of errors. The first is omission error with 41% of errors and misformation errors with also 41% of errors were the most common types of error. The second was misordering errors with 13% errors. The last was addition errors with 5% of errors. Keywords: Students, Writing, Grammatical Error.
