Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that students at SMP 38 Padang find difficulties to speak English fluently at their expected level. The purpose of this research is to, describe ’How students’ English speaking fluency in dialogue at the 8th grade of SMP N 38 Padang, through the assessment of (a) speech rate (SR) (b) pause rate (PR) (c) disfluent syllable, to find out the student’s speech rate (SR), to find out the student’s pause rate (PR), to find out the student’s disfluent syllable (DS). This research is a descriptive research, the population in this research are the eighth grade students of SMP N 38 Padang, The sample in this research amounted to 26 people. The data of this research is in the form of audio recordings, The result of this research shows that the fluency ability of students in speaking English is good or at level 3.
