Abstract

Selvia Andri Yani. 2023. The Effect of Communicative Language Teaching Approach to Students’ Reading Comprehension at the second grade of MTS Iqra Barung-Barung Balantai. This research was conducted with the aim of determining the use of the Communicative Language Teaching Approach in improving reading comprehension in the second grade at MTS Iqra Barung-Barung Balantai. The population of this research is students in the second grade at MTS Iqra, with a total of 24 students. The method used quantitative research with pre-experiment research. The instrument used to collect the data was reading tests in essay form. The result of the data indicated that the students mean score on the pre-test in reading comprehension was 51.6. While the post-test score was higher than the mean score of the pre-test wich was 80.5, it means that there is a significant different, and the result showed that students reading comprehension improved from the pre-test and post-test with a percentage 55.3%. It can be concluded that the Communicative Language Teaching Approach can be used by English teachers to improve students’ comprehension skills in reading. The researcher recommended this Communicative Language Teaching Approach as an alternative in the process of teaching and learning English.
