Abstract

This research focuses on the types of speaking materials and speaking activities in the book "English For Nusantara" for seventh-grade students based on Cunningsworth's theory and Kathleen's theory. This research also determines the types of speaking materials and activities based on the Merdeka Curriculum. The method used in this research is document analysis. Speaking materials and speaking activities contained in this textbook constitute the research data. The results show that the book has provided all types of talking materials based on Cunningsworth's theory: oral presentation, practice of language items, dialogue, role-play, and communication activities. For speaking activities, the book has provided almost all types of speaking activities based on Kathleen's theory: conversations, interviews, information gap, jigsaw activities, role-play, logic puzzles, picture-based activities, and physical actions in speaking lessons, with an uneven distribution of the types of speaking materials and activities on each page. The most presented type of speaking material is the practice of language items (32%), with a total of 22 out of 69, which always appears on every page, and the most presented speaking activity is information Gap (31%), with a total of 19 out of 61. The speaking materials and activities in this textbook also almost meet the criteria of the independent curriculum. This textbook is presented for seventh-grade students, so it can help them at a fluent level of English, and is easy for them to understand.
