Abstract
ABSTRACT The thesis entitled “The Effect of Using Students Team Achievement Division on Students Speaking Ability at SMAN 2 Padang” written by Helmayani Siregar 1814050004 from English Tadris department at State Islamic University Imam Bonjol Padang, 2023. The background of writing this thesis is the lack of students' ability in the application of speaking English at SMAN 2 Padang. With this background, the author wishes to apply a technique Students Team Achievement Division that is considered effective by the author in learning English. This research uses experimental research which is categorized as quasi-experimental research with a randomized control-group only design. The population of this research is all class X of SMAN 2 Padang, with the research sample being class XE1 and XE7. Based on the hypothesis testing carried out, it was obtained that the significant value of changes in the Experiment class and the control class is sig. 0.000. Based on the value of the test criteria, if the sig value <0.05 then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. In accordance with the results of the significance value above sig 0.000 <0.05 then Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. which means that the use of the Students Team Achievement Division technique gives the average speaking ability of students in the experimental class that is better than in the control class which only uses the lecture method in teaching.
