Abstract

ABSTRAC DertaSyahdara Agustisi, 2018. “ TheStudents’s Writing Skill on Genre Texts of Class IX Junior High School 1 Sintoga” Writing is one of the skills must be learnt by the students. This research is to analyze the students’ skill Junior High School 1 Sintoga in genre texts especially on recount, descriptive, narrative texts. The analysis is focused on compenent of writing namely: contents, organization, vocabulary, languange use, mechanic. In addition, the analysis also focused on students mastery on generic structure of the genre texts. This research was descriptive research. There were 90 students of class IX Junior High School 1 Sintoga. To get the data the researcher used Slovin’s formula. Intruments of this researche was written test form. Result of the test analyzed with assessment criterion told by expert. The result of the test analyzed together with English Teacher class IX Junior High School 1 Sintoga. Based on the result of the research it was found that the mean score of students based on component writing is 63.65 for recount, 57.09 for descriptive, and 51.58 for narrative. The score indicates that most students cannot reach Minimum Achievement Criteria ( MAC ) yet specified by school that is 90. For the each component, they get mean score, that arefor genre texts got mean score, that is 18.33 for content, 11.86 for organization, 11.42 for vocabulary, 13.04 for languange use and 2.78 for mechanics. The students haven’t mastered on mechanic mastery. From the percentage of students on genre texts 92% of students have problem on recount text, 80% of students having problem on descriptive texts, 76% of students having problem on narrative texts.the students haven’t mastered in recount text, because 92% of students cannit reach Minimum Achievement Criteria ( MAC ) specified by school. Meanwhile, for generic structure, the students havent’t mastered in series of event, it concluded that the students had low in mastery series of event of recount text, and for descriptive text, the students had low in mastery description text. Meanwhile for narrative text 55% of students had low in mastery steps. The conclusion of this research is students at class IX of Junior High School 1 Sintoga can made recount, descriptive, and narrative texts, but not the good one and students must improve their writing skill especially on making genre texts. To suggested fot the English teacher to find the best way such as applying free writing technique: the teacher could help the students to practice the use of languange in written form. This technique is helpful for the students to be more enthuasiastic to write English.
