Abstract

This thesis is entitled: Minimum Number of Legitimate Jama'ah Friday Prayers (Comparative Study of the Hanafi School and the Shafi'i School), written by: Andri Gustamar, NIM 1813020027, Study Program Comparative Schools, Faculty of Sharia UIN Imam Bonjol Padang. The background of this research is that there are differences of opinion between the Hanafi School and the Shafi'i School about the minimum number of valid congregational Friday prayers. The Hanafi School believes that Friday prayers can be performed with a minimum of three people other than the Imam, while the Shafi'i School believes that Friday prayers are valid with a minimum of forty men. There are four research questions, namely: First, what are the arguments of the Hanafi and Shafi'i schools regarding the minimum number of congregational Friday prayers. Second, what are the factors that cause differences in opinion between the Hanafi School and the Shafi'i School regarding the minimum number of congregational Friday prayers. Third, which is the more thorough opinion between the Hanafi and Shafi'i schools regarding the minimum number of congregational Friday prayers. Fourth, the analysis of the minimum number of Friday prayers during the pandemic in terms of the opinions of the Hanafi School and the Shafi'i School. This type of research is library research (Library Research). The primary sources in the research are al-Umm and al-Mabsut books, while the secondary sources are open books related to the research title. The data analysis method used is a comparative method. The results of the research are as follows: First, the Hanafi school postulates with the Koran surah al- Jumu'ah verse 9, while the Shafi'i school postulates with the hadith of Ka'ab bin Malik. Second, there are three factors that cause differences of opinion among the scholars, namely: differences among scholars in determining the minimum limit for plural words, whether two, three or four, then whether the imam is also included in that number, and whether the number of congregations is required for Friday prayers. must be in accordance with the plural in general, namely more than three, four or there are other provisions. Third, if viewed from the point of view of the arguments, the opinion of the Shafi'i School is more rajih than the opinion of the Hanafi School, this opinion is also supported by a large number of scholars. Fourth, there are two provisions regarding the implementation of Friday prayers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The first opinion says that Friday is not obligatory for people during the pandemic but must replace it with the Dzuhur prayer. The second opinion is that it is permissible to carry out Friday prayers in mosques and in prayer rooms by complying with health protocols and keeping a distance from each other.
