Abstract

An Analysis of Online English Learning During Covid-19 Pandemic Grade Eight at Islamic Junior High School Kajai West Pasaman. This research is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach that aims to find out how the teacher and student perceptions toward online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic at Islamic Junior High School Kajai West Pasaman. The data was obtained from the English teacher and students class VIII at Islamic Junior Hight School West Pasaman. Data collection techniques in this research used interview, documentation, and questionnaire techniques in the field. While the data analysis techniques in this research used: data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The results of the research stated that electronic learning the implementation of online learning at MTsM Kajai has been carried out quite well. In the implementation of online learning, teacher and student use WhatsApp and Zoom. Even though learning is done online the teacher still does learning planning by making online lesson plans, preparing teaching materials in the form of learning media and preparing teaching materials before the learning process takes place. In the implementation of online learning, teachers use WhatsApp more often to communicate with students and their parents, in addition, WhatsApp is used by teachers to share information related to online learning. Based on the result of the data, some result were found that : (1) Teacher perceptions of online learning are effective, the teachers feel comfort, the material is easy to understand, the students are active, the students seem serious although sometime difficult controlling the students. (2) Student’s perceptions of online learning, namely: effective, the students more active, optimal in delivering the material. (3) the obstacle in implementing online learning are limited quotas of students, the teacher feels confused and has difficulty, inadequate facilities and infrastructure and the lack of students enthusiasm
