Abstract

The Effectiveness of Cooperative Script Method in EFL Teaching at MTsN 9 Tanah Datar. Thesis. Department of English Education, Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty, State Islamic University of Imam Bonjol Padang. The purpose of this study is to know whether the Cooperative Script method has a significant effect on students' foreign language skills, especially in students' speaking abilities which are limited to the components of pronunciation and fluency of students at MTsN 9 Tanah Datar. The design of this research is quasi-experimental. The research location is at MTsN 9 Tanah Datar. The population is 220 students who are distributed into seven classes. The samples were VIII A as a control class consisting of 32 students and VIII B as an experimental class consisting of 32 students who were equipped with random sampling clusters. The data of this study were collected using a speaking test. The results showed that the posttest average score of the experimental class (78.56) was higher than the control class (67.06). Furthermore, this research data were analyzed using the statistical software program SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) version 2.5 and using a T-test also using the statistical software program SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) version 2.5, from the calculation of test results, calculated significance value (2-tailed) is 0.000 with = 0.05. So, it means that the t-test result is lower than (0.000 < 0.05). Then, after searching for the average of each component of speaking, it was found that a significant increase occurred in the components of pronunciation and fluency. Where the average value of students' pronunciation is 19.15 while the control group is 16.65. This means that there is an increase in pronunciation compared to the control group with a difference of 2.5. In the fluency component, students got 19.18 while the control group got 16.37, with a difference of 2.81. From these findings, it is concluded that the Cooperative Script method has a significant effect on improving students' foreign language teaching (EFL), especially in speaking skills which are limited to the components of pronunciation and fluency.
